Past simple, past progressive and conditionals

Simple Past

This type of past tense is used for actions that occurred in the past and who have completed at some time

For example

- She played with her doll

- I did silence in class

- I change my room

In the table below we can see that the sentence structure is similar to the Simple Present:

-In order to form a sentence in the past tense must distinguish two types: regular verbs and irregular verbs.

-In the interrogative as negative as we DID auxiliary

which is the past form of the verb "TO DO" and accompanies the main verb in its infinitive form.

-In can be used negations DID or DID NOT.

-By expressing a sentence in the Simple Past says action is not related to the present, as shown in the following cases:

-In the first case the Past Simple form by adding the ending to the infinitive ED.

Past Continuous.

This last type is to indicate the actions that were carried out in the past that were interrupted, but then continued

for example

she began to do their homework at 3 pm

(Comenzó a hacer la tarea a las 3. y continuó haciendolas déspues)

-The Past Continuous is constructed with the auxiliary verb "to be"

-The main verb in the infinitive with ING termination:

-the negative form is built with after the verb NOT TO BE. You can also use WAS NOT or Were contracted form.

-Can also be used for two actions that happened in the past and one of them just because. We use the Simple Past to mention it already ended and the Past Continuous to tell what is still running.

For example

They were running when I bought my lunch.

Ellos estaban corriendo cuando yo compraba mi almuerzo.

Conditionals

English these structures are those situations where it refers to the true condition employed. We mainly use 4 types of conditional, making the statement that there are more conditional but the following four are the most common.

*zero conditional

This conditional refers to the situation that is part of a universal truth making it always true

If you freeze water	it turns into ice.

Example

if I go out without umbrella and it rains, I get wet

*first conditional

-This is used when a situation is real or in some cases it may be possible

-Its structure is to

if + simple present + future single.

If clause	Main clause
If + Present tense	will / can / may / must + verb
If it rains today,	I'll stay at home

Example

if she doesn't call you, you can call her.

*Second conditional

-this type of conditional is for those scenarios

-the structure is

if + simple past + Simple conditional.

If clause	Main clause
If + Past Simple	would / could / might + verb
If I won the lottery,	I would travel around the world.

Example

If I had more money, I'd buy a really nice car.

Third conditional

-This type is similar to the second except that this is in the past

-Its structure is

if + past perfect + perfect conditional.

If clause	Main clause
If + Past Perfect tense	would/could/might + have + past participle
If I had won the lottery,	I would have traveled around the world.

Example

if he hadn't drunk so much last night, he would not have headache.
